A Strip Club On The Mainland | Wednesday Early Evening

On the outside, the club looked pretty seedy, and it was hard to tell whether the small number of cars in the parking lot was a good sign or a bad one. For at least a few of the cars already there - including a limousine with tinted windows and a very sad-looking sports car that still had half of a JUST MARRIED sign affixed to its rear bumper -- it was probably good, but for any Fandom students looking for a positive strip club experience, it was a little harder to tell.

At the door, there was a bouncer checking IDs (or fake IDs, as the case almost universally was with this crowd), and inside... well, inside was a strip club. There was a stage, there were dancers (of multiple genders, even!), there was a breakfast buffet that looked like it served bacon, and there was a bar. And there was glitter. Lots and lots of glitter.

The night was young, the bouncer was easily fooled, and The Silver Glitter Club was open. Enjoy, Fandomites. Or at least try not to pick up any diseases.

Kenzi was talking to one of the male dancers, smiling happily. "So, how much you make a night? And how the hell do you get all the glitter off?"

Kenzi, no. This is not another job to aspire to.

"You're with the Fandom group, right?" Gert asked the girl she didn't know, approaching her with a soda can in one hand and a dog-eared book in the other. "Not to discourage you from your career goals, but I heard one of the other strippers telling some dude they have a twenty-one-plus policy for their dancers."

"Well, crap. Forget that." Kenzi smiled at the dancer though, and waved a ten at him in thanks. "Yeah, I'm Kenzi. Sorry, I'm crap at names, you're...?"

"Gert," she replied. "I'm newish. Like a semester and change, not most-recent-picnic new."

Clarifying was necessary. It was a status thing.

"So you really don't think this place is gross?"

"Enh. Gross how?" Kenzi tilted her head, taking a sip of her drink. "The glitter's kinda weird. Gotta wonder where it's been... and I sure wouldn't eat any of the food." Yeah, no. That had to be some kinda health violation.

"Gross like objectifying and generally demeaning to women," Gert suggested. Gert had a pretty firm and also heavily controversial sense of what feminism entailed. "It's just weird that someone would want to work here."

"There's guys here too," Kenzi pointed out, waving to Todd the Dancing Fiend. "And I've heard they pay well. Way better than waiting tables and crap. If you've got it, why not get paid to flaunt it?" Kenzi's feminism basically was of the brand of 'enh, I do what I want.'

"I dunno," Gert said, though she didn't sound quite as Enraged (TM) by it all as she usually did. To each her own, after all. "There's the icky guys sticking their fingers in your waistband and all that."

"Okay, that is a valid aesthetic point," Kenzi agreed, considering. "Old guys. Drunk guys. Smelly guys... on the other hand, that's why they probably make so much money. Like, who else would touch them?" Thinking of that, Kenzi held up another five for Daisy the Dancing Doctor. 'Cause she deserved it.

"Yeah, but is it worth the Purell costs?" Gert was seriously not sure that it was. "Not to mention soap for de-glittering."

"See, I was wondering that! But Todd wasn't talking," Kenzi said, shaking her head. "If there's a secret to getting this stuff off your skin, he won't share. At least not for ten bucks." She cocked her head and added, "This is kind of a skanky venue... No offense, Daisy." To Gert, she said, "But if it were classier, we never would've gotten in to be offended."

Kenzi had a point. Gert smirked. "Yeah, whoop-de-do for that," she said. "If we hadn't gotten in, I never would have managed to get glitter all over my book."

Sigh.

"You brought a book?" Kenzi mostly sounded confused, with a dash of disbelieving. "Ummm... why?" Was she going to start a discussion in the club? Well, the strippers were probably pretty well-read, even if the patrons weren't.

When Maddie had a chance, she came over just to boggle. "You are way more confident here than like... well, everyone but the boys."

"What's to be nervous about?" Kenzi asked, gesturing around. "We're the customers! And we already got past Goofy the Doorman. Seriously, it's not like we're required to do anything... hi there," she commented to the dancer on the stage behind Maddie. "How you doin'?" Don't turn around, Maddie. No, really.

Maddie totally turned around.

And then turned back to Kenzi really quickly, blushing. A lot. "Okay, maybe I'm not used to all that. Onstage. In public. In the company of everyone."

"Best way to get past the uncomfortable, power-through," Kenzi counseled, looking around for a server. "Did you get a drink yet? That helps too!"

"I had one. Should probably have another." No, you shouldn't, Maddie. She was going to grab the first drink that came by, though. "Because who really learns from one hangover already in the week?"

"Professional drinkers! ...although really, I don't know anyone who gets paid for that." Kenzi took a long slurp of her drink, and leaned against one of the tall tables next to the stage. "And just drink lots of water before you let yourself pass out. And go to the diner for greasy food the next day."

"The absolute last thing I wanted was greasy food," Maddie said. "Mostly I wanted to curl up and die."

So naturally, when she caught sight of the stage again the only natural thing to do was to down half her drink right there. "You know what, worth it."

Kenzi cackled and toasted her as she did that. "Isn't it? GO TODD, GO TODD, WORK IT! You gotta give them encouragement," Kenzi counseled. "DAISY DAISY DANCE GIRL!"

"The trick to not-objectifying is personalizing," Kenzi advised. A little tipsily. "And beings supportive, not exploitative! WORK IT, GUYS!"

"That's... actually a good way of looking at it," Maddie said thoughtfully. "And wow, they are really working it. Go, you."

"Thank-you," Kenzi said with a little half-bow. "So hey, this means you've marked off a few things on that I Never list, right? ... which I only say, 'cause some of you weren't drinking as much as me and Cade." Nobody had been drinking as much as Cade. It was impressive.
